Rwenzori Women Business Network LTD (RWOBUNE) is an entity that is founded to empower and build capacity for the business women entrepreneurs in the Rwenzori sub region and it subscribes under the WESTERN UGANDA WOMEN ENTREPRENUERS DAIS LTD at the regional level. This network endeavours to create a business enabling environment for women entrepreneurs with a specific focus on micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Any woman entrepreneur trading as a sole proprietor or a company where the woman holds 51% shares and above, with the business being within the targeted area qualifies as a beneficiary for the network.

There is certainly a rising number of successful women doing business in Uganda, all trading at different levels as they defy stereotypes to make it and contribute to Uganda’s economy. Much as most women are successful, many fail to or give up for various reasons. According to the research conducted by Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Limited (UWEAL), women own 45% of business in Uganda and are champions of change but the gap between success and failure widens with various challenges among which are; access and cost of credit as one of the biggest barriers, exposure of their businesses, access to markets, literacy levels among others. It should be noted that most of the women in Rwenzori sub-region of Western Uganda, struggle to have stable businesses, and a few which have progressed are not self-resilient making it difficult for the women entrepreneurs achieve their goals. Most of these SMEs lack business acceleration skills, market penetration capacity and participation mainly in public procurement where most of the opportunities of doing business are.

It is upon this that RWOBUNE came in to try support the women entrepreneurs in mitigating the challenges of business failures in the sub-region. This network has supported the women by providing platform for business mentorship and brokerage, training in registration and formalization of their business enterprises, training in record keeping to ascertain income and expenditure and foster business growth of their business enterprises and participation in public procurement among others. Operations of RWOBUNE were formalized in September 2022 and it now operates in the 8 districts of the Rwenzori sub-region namely; Kamwenge, Kyegegwa, Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Ntoronko, Kasese, Kitagwenda and Bundibugyo with the main coordinating office located in Kamwenge district at Nkoma, Katalyebwa. In each district of operation there are at least 5 operational Women entrepreneur groups. These groups are facilitated by Embibo Foundations which is currently the major partner and funder, providing human capital and financial resource among other resources needed for the smooth operation of the Organisation.
